It is not very complicated at all to do your laundry in an ecologically and environmentally-friendly way. We have put together a few simply tips and hints to show how you can keep in mind some environmental aspects without a lot of efforts when you do your washing.

In addition, there are some definitions of laundry symbols which you find in the care instructions of your new clothing items.

Wash sensibly

No more than necessary

Only wash as often as necessary. Try to wash dirty clothes as soon as possible. Avoid keeping them dirty for longer periods of time to prevent the dirt from getting deeper into the fabric. Sort your laundry according to dirt content and always use the temperature and the amount of detergent indicated on the labels. For best laundry results, heavily soiled items should be pre-treated manually. Generally you do not have to pre-wash articles that are normally or only slightly dirty. This way, you will also save energy.

Saving water and energy

Yamamoto Natural Clothing favours washing machines that need only a small amount of water and energy. Please mind the energy class of your washing machine (A is the most economical version) and, as much as you can, avoid pre-wash and hot wash. A lot of machines also have an energy-saving function.

Low temperatures

Select your washing temperatures according to the care instructions and sort your items. Hot wash should be an exception. Most all-purpose detergents are effective even at 40°. It suffices to wash outerwear at 30°; underwear may also be washed at 60°.

Optimum load

Try to use your washing machine to full capacity. Overloaded machines use more energy, whereas machines with small loads require as much energy as an optimally loaded machine. You should find recommendations in the user manual of your machine.

Ecological detergents

Make sure your detergent is biodegradable. Use the detergent dosage indicated on the package. The water hardness also plays a role. Generally, special detergents and softeners should only be used sparingly. Did you know that liquid detergents are harder to deal with for clarification plants than powder detergents? We would also like to point out that some all-purpose detergents use harmful oxygen bleach. For the sake of our environment, we recommend using only bleach-free detergents.

Drying and ironing

We recommends letting clothing items air-dray on the washing line or the clothes rack and using tumble dryers only rarely. In this case, less is more. If you iron less, you save energy and gain time. If you prefer straightened clothes, do your ironing as long as the fabric is still damp. Ironing on the wrong side will also help to preserve your fabric.

Washing

Normal cycle: The figures in the wash-tub symbol correspond with the maximum temperatures that must not be exceeded.

Gentle cycle: One bar beneath the wash-tub is the gentle cycle symbol.

Special delicate cycle: A double-bar indicates very delicate articles, e.g. wool (delicate cycle).

Hand wash: Do not exceed a water temperature of 40°C. Thoroughly dissolve your special detergent in the water before adding the item. Move the item gently. Do not rub or wring. Then rinse and squeeze the item gently.

Do not wash.

Do not bleach: Some normal all-purpose detergents contain oxygen bleach. For the sake of the environment, we recommend using only bleach-free detergents.

Drying in the tumble dryer

Normal drying possible.

Drying only at reduced heat.

Air-dry only.

Ironing

Hot ironing: Treat items while damp or sprinkle them with water before ironing. Use ironing cloth to prevent shine or pressing marks. Steaming is allowed for these items.
